Early Life

Rupert James Graham Lowe was born on 31 October 1957 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He came from a background that would prepare him for a career in business and, eventually, politics.

Education

Lowe received a privileged education at some of England's most prestigious institutions:

• Dragon School, Oxford — One of England's leading preparatory schools, known for producing leaders in various fields
• Radley College — An all-boys independent boarding school in Oxfordshire, consistently ranked among the top public schools in the UK
• University of Reading — Where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree

City of London Career

After completing his education, Lowe embarked on a successful career in the City of London's financial district. His roles included positions at some of the most prestigious financial institutions of the era:

• Morgan Grenfell — The historic British merchant bank (later acquired by Deutsche Bank)
• Deutsche Bank — The German multinational investment bank
• Barings Bank — One of the oldest merchant banks in London (prior to its collapse in 1995)

Lowe also served as a board member of the London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE), gaining experience in derivatives trading and financial markets.

Business Ventures

Beyond traditional banking, Lowe demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by foundingSecure Retirements, a quoted care home provider. He established this company with Andrew Cowen, who would later become vice-chairman of Southampton Football Club.

This company became instrumental in Lowe's entry into football, as it was used in the reverse takeover that brought him to Southampton FC.

Personal Life

Rupert Lowe married Nicky Lowe in 1986, and together they have four children. The family has maintained a relatively private life despite Lowe's high-profile roles in football and politics.

Political Awakening

Lowe was originally a member of the Conservative Party until 1993, when he left the party over disagreements regarding the Maastricht Treaty. This early departure from mainstream conservatism foreshadowed his later involvement with Eurosceptic movements, including the Referendum Party, Brexit Party, and Reform UK.
