Critics slam Shabana Mahmood's scheme to pay failed asylum seekers up to £40,000 to leave the UK.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced a controversial pilot scheme offering failed asylum seeker families up to £40,000 to leave the UK voluntarily.
The scheme offers £10,000 per person, capped at four per family, if they agree to leave within 7 days.
Critics including Rupert Lowe, Reform UK, and the Conservatives have condemned the payments as rewarding illegal entry.
Restore Britain has called for deportations rather than handouts, with Lowe stating that under his party illegal migrants would be removed, not paid off.
The government argues the scheme saves money compared to housing costs of up to £158,000 per year for a family of three.
